The goal of this project was to create a typography journal about our “Heimat.” This word cannot be translated into a single term, but its main meaning is to symbolize a feeling of safety rooted in a positive memory. This feeling can come from a past experience, a daily ritual, or a personal action. Ultimately, Heimat can be anything.
For my Heimat, I chose to explore insomnia from an unusual perspective. In my journal, I present it as a moment when the mind can rest even if the body cannot. The calm and silence of these moments can be just as soothing as sleep. For the layout, I used multiple text blocks arranged in a seemingly random way. This unsystematic structure reflects the restless back-and-forth movements we experience when we can’t sleep.
